What are kraft-paper stand-up pouches?

Kraft-paper stand-up pouches – also called kraft-paper doypacks, natural-paper stand-up pouches or organic coffee bags – combine a natural organic look with functional aroma protection. Kraft paper outside for an authentically rustic appearance, an aluminum composite or high-quality barrier film inside for aroma protection.

Kraft paper is a long-fibre natural paper made from softwood – very tear-resistant, with a characteristic brown look. For organic brands, artisan roasteries, organic tea merchants and all concepts with a natural brand positioning, it is the material of choice. It conveys craftsmanship and naturalness – often with a “made by an artisan producer” image.

Important: kraft paper alone has NO aroma barrier effect. That is why our kraft-paper stand-up pouches have an internal aluminum barrier or a high-quality composite inner layer – you get an organic look and premium protection in one. Certified food-grade to EU 10/2011.

Compared with pure aluminum bags, kraft-paper bags have the more natural look. Compared with transparent bags, they offer significantly better aroma protection.

Frequently asked questions about kraft-paper stand-up pouches

Does kraft paper alone provide aroma protection?

No, kraft paper alone has no relevant barrier effect against oxygen or UV. For aroma protection, kraft-paper stand-up pouches need an internal aluminum foil or a high-quality composite barrier layer. All kraft-paper bags in our range have this inner barrier as standard.

Organic certified?

The kraft paper itself is not automatically organic certified, but it is usable for organic brands. For official organic packaging certificates (e.g. FSC for sustainable forestry), talk to us with your specific needs. EU 10/2011 food-grade certification is standard.

With aroma valve for coffee?

Yes – kraft-paper stand-up pouches with an aroma valve are the standard variant for organic coffee roasteries. The valve lets CO₂ escape and blocks oxygen. Required for freshly roasted organic coffee.

Printable with an individual brand design?

Yes – kraft paper can be printed excellently. Standard processes: flexographic printing (cheap, multi-colour), gravure printing (premium quality), embossing/hot foiling (for a premium artisan look). Organic seals, Demeter logos, hand-sketched illustrations look particularly authentic on kraft paper.

Which sizes?

Standard sizes as with standard doypacks: 100 g, 250 g, 500 g, 1 kg. For 250 g of coffee, 130×220 mm. Important: kraft-paper outside + aluminum inside is multilayer and therefore slightly stiffer than pure composite bags. The stand function is retained.

Recyclable?

Kraft-paper stand-up pouches with an aluminum inner layer are not recyclable by type – a multilayer material. They belong in residual waste. For fully compostable or monomaterial alternatives, see recyclable stand-up pouches.

How does kraft paper differ from natron paper?

Both are natural papers made from softwood. Kraft paper is classically brown and rustically textured. Natron paper is lighter, more uniform and smoother – it looks more elegant. For premium patisseries, often natron; for organic producers, often kraft paper. Both bio-based.

Possible with a window?

Yes – kraft-paper stand-up pouches with a transparent window sell very well. Beans or muesli visible within a natural-paper frame – the ideal combination of an organic look and content presentation. The aluminum barrier is retained in the opaque part of the bag.

Suitable for greasy contents?

With greasy contents (e.g. fat-rich nuts, chopped bacon, pet food with a high fat content), kraft-paper outside can slightly develop grease stains. For such applications, choose kraft paper with an additional grease-barrier coating or the pure aluminum variant.

Suitable for the farm shop and weekly market?

Yes – absolutely ideal. The kraft-paper look fits perfectly with farm-shop aesthetics and an organic weekly-market appearance. End customers associate kraft paper with craftsmanship and authenticity. Even compared with rival brands in composite film, you immediately look more premium.
