What are transparent cross bottom bags?

Transparent cross bottom bags are the clear standard variant with an upright bottom. They are made from clear LDPE film and combine two properties: visible contents thanks to the transparent film, and stable standing thanks to the cross-folded bottom that unfolds automatically when filled. This makes them a cost-effective standard solution for all applications that call for a simple PE bag with the ability to stand.

The range of use is wide: farm shop direct marketing of dried fruit and nuts, market trader assortments, hobby applications, smaller bakeries with loosely packed baked goods. Compared with block bottom or stand-up pouches they are considerably cheaper – though not as stable standing on the shelf. For high-volume applications and direct sales to end customers, the price difference is often decisive.

Are cross bottom bags made of paper?

NO. Cross bottom bags are made of clear LDPE film, not paper. The cross-folded bottom is created by folding the film. For paper bags we recommend cone bags or kraft paper carrier bags.

What is the difference between a cross bottom and a stand bottom (Doypack)?

Cross bottom: a cross-folded bottom created by folding the film, which unfolds when filled, cost-effective. Stand bottom (Doypack): a rectangular, fixed-construction bottom with high stability, premium presentation. Cross bottom bags are cheaper, Doypacks are more stable.

How stably do the bags stand?

Well, but not as stably as Doypacks. When filled optimally with a sufficient fill level (about 70–80 % full) they stand upright. Underfilled, they fall over.

Are the bags food-grade?

Yes, our standard cross bottom bags made from virgin material are compliant with EU 10/2011 and approved for direct food contact. Exception: the PCR-recycled variant is still in the testing phase for food-contact suitability and is not currently approved for direct food contact.

How is the bag closed?

With adhesive tape, a heat sealer, a clip band or by folding over. For market traders, clip bands with a twist closure are common.

When are cross bottom bags worthwhile compared with a stand bottom?

When the cost difference matters and no premium presentation is required. For high-volume direct marketing at the farm shop or weekly market, cross bottom bags are a strong solution. For premium retail packaging, Doypacks are the better choice.

Can the bags be printed?

Yes, custom printing in flexo print. For market traders, your own print is a clear brand plus.

Are sustainable transparent cross bottom bags available?

Yes, PCR-recycled variants are available. The transparency is reduced at higher PCR proportions. For direct food contact, please choose our virgin-material variants – the PCR variant is still in the testing phase for food-contact suitability.

Which film thickness is optimal?

30 microns for light fillings (dried fruit, nuts, sweets). 50–60 microns for heavy or moist foods.

Can the bags be frozen?

Yes, LDPE is cold-resistant down to -40 °C. For frequent freezer use we recommend more robust 50–60 micron variants.

Which quantities make sense?

Stock items in standard sizes are available by the box (typically 500–1000 units). For market traders with high-volume needs, pallet quantities with volume pricing are more cost-effective.

Which mandatory details are required?

For immediate-consumption direct sales at the market, usually none. For pre-packed foods with a shelf life of more than 1 day, the mandatory details under the LMIV (Food Information Regulation) apply.
