What are extra strong flat bags?

Extra strong flat bags are the robust sister of the classic LDPE flat bags: instead of the standard film thickness of 50 microns, 90–100 microns are used. This almost doubled material thickness gives the bags significantly increased puncture, tear and impact resistance – decisive for applications where standard goods would fail. Heavy foods from 1 kg, sharp-edged components, robust everyday shipping, harsh storage conditions – this is where the additional film thickness pays off.

Flat bags fundamentally have no closure – after filling they are typically closed with adhesive tape, a heat sealer, clip band or cable tie. This makes them the low-cost standard pack for single-use applications: shipping packs, industrial ranges, food pre-portioning. The extra strong variant is most in demand wherever packaging quality is a direct cost factor – torn or punctured bags in transit cost far more than the surcharge of the stronger film.

Our extra strong flat bag range covers standard sizes from 100×150 mm (small shipping kits) to 400×600 mm (large formats). Food-grade to EU 10/2011, with or without a Euro hole for hanging display, in transparent clear film or with a write-on panel. For premium applications, PA/PE composite variants are also available, offering higher strength again and vacuum suitability.

For extra strong applications, the film quality is a decisive cost factor: a film that is too thin or uneven leads to bags that fail precisely where they should actually help – in shipping heavy or sharp-edged contents. Our suppliers meet the strict requirements for consistent impact strength and puncture resistance.

Our packaging specialists advise on the right film thickness for your application: for shipping with normal contents, 70-micron bags are often enough – 90 microns is over-spec. For heavy or sharp-edged consignments, 90–100 microns is the right choice. For extreme requirements (vacuum, sharp metal edges), PA/PE composite variants are recommended. This way you get not over-dimensioned standard goods, but the optimal packaging.

Shipping is from our German warehouse. Extra strong standard sizes are usually in stock; individual sizes and printing are arranged individually within the delivery time window. Frequently asked questions about extra strong flat bags

What does “extra strong” mean for flat bags?

Extra strong denotes a film thickness of 90 to 100 microns – almost twice as strong as standard flat bags (50 microns). The material is significantly more robust against puncturing, tearing and mechanical stress. For heavy contents, sharp-edged components or rough shipping, extra strong is the right choice.

When is extra strong worthwhile compared with standard?

When the risk of damage and complaint costs are relevant: a torn 50-micron standard bag in transit costs more than the surcharge for extra strong. For light or uncritical contents, standard is enough – here extra strong is over-spec.

How do 90 microns and 100 microns differ?

100 microns offers significantly higher impact and tear resistance again. For extreme loads or consignments with particularly sharp-edged or heavy contents, 100 microns is preferable. For normal applications, 90 microns is usually sufficient.

Are extra strong bags food-grade?

Yes, all standard LDPE flat bags in our range are food-grade to EU 10/2011. They are suitable for direct food-contact applications such as freezing, cheese, frozen meat.

How are flat bags closed?

Flat bags fundamentally have no closure. Depending on the application, they are closed with adhesive tape, a heat sealer, clip band or cable tie. For reclosable applications we recommend ziplock bags instead of flat bags.

Can the bags be frozen?

Yes, LDPE is cold-resistant down to -40 °C. For freezer applications, extra strong films are even better than standard goods, as they become less brittle at very low temperatures.

Are the bags shipping-suitable?

From 70 microns, fundamentally yes. Extra strong (90 microns+) is the robust choice for consignments with sharp-edged or heavy contents. For particularly valuable consignments we recommend combining with a padded mailing envelope.

With or without a Euro hole?

With a Euro hole: hanging display in retail or on a warehouse pegboard. Without a Euro hole: pure shipping or warehouse stacking. For workshop ranges with pegboard storage, a Euro hole is practical.

Can the bags be printed with a logo?

Yes, individual printing is available. Run sizes and printing processes determine the price. For smaller quantities, labelling with self-adhesive industrial labels is usually the flexible alternative.

Do extra strong bags withstand vacuum?

For light vacuum packing, yes, although pure LDPE does not have an optimal oxygen barrier. For genuine vacuum packing with long-term preservation we recommend PA/PE composite variants as a special category.

Are sustainable extra strong bags available?

Yes, we have PCR-recycled and mono-material variants in our range in an extra strong version too. The tear resistance of PCR material is now almost equivalent to virgin material.
