What are food-grade paper carrier bags?

Food-grade paper carrier bags are the specialised variant for direct contact with food. They are certified to EU 10/2011 and fitted with food-grade paper or a special interior lining that makes contact with bread, baked goods, fresh food or pralines safe. Standard paper carrier bags are NOT food-grade, because the paper often contains printing inks, bleaching agents or glues that can migrate into food.

For bakeries, patisseries and organic farm shops, EU 10/2011 certification is mandatory: HACCP-certified businesses may only hand over food in demonstrably food-grade packaging. Our food-grade paper carrier bags are made from food-grade kraft paper (unbleached natural paper) or with a greaseproof interior lining. They are breathable – important for fresh baked goods that would otherwise form condensation – and at the same time hygienic.

NO. Standard paper carrier bags can contain printing inks, bleaching agents or glues that migrate into food. For food contact you need specifically food-grade, EU 10/2011-compliant variants.

What is a declaration of compliance (DoC)?

The declaration of compliance is a manufacturer document confirming conformity with EU 10/2011. For HACCP-certified bakeries and patisseries it is a mandatory record.

Are the bags breathable?

Yes, kraft paper is breathable – important for fresh baked goods that would otherwise form condensation. For greasy baked goods we recommend a greaseproof interior lining.

Are the bags grease-resistant?

Pure kraft paper is NOT grease-resistant – greasy baked goods (croissants, doughnuts) can soak through the paper. For greasy products we recommend a greaseproof interior lining or glassine bags as inner packaging.

Can the bags hold hot baked goods?

For a short time, yes – fresh bread straight from the oven can be placed inside. For longer hot storage we recommend a greaseproof interior lining with heat resistance up to 200 °C.

Can the bags be printed with a brand logo?

Yes, with food-grade inks. For bakeries, custom printing is a clear branding plus. Prices depend on the run size.

Which mandatory labelling is required?

For pre-packed foods with a shelf life of more than 1 day, FIC mandatory labelling applies. For immediate-consumption baked goods at the sales counter it is often simplified. Allergen information is, however, usually advisable.

Are the bags recyclable?

Yes, pure kraft paper is recyclable in the waste-paper stream. With a greaseproof interior lining they are likewise suitable for waste paper (greaseproof paper is paper).

Which handle variant makes sense?

Flat handles for standard bakeries (cost-effective). Twisted paper handles for premium patisseries (higher load capacity, elegant look).

Are sustainable food carrier bags available?

Yes, FSC-certified kraft paper is standard. For organic bakeries we recommend unbleached natural paper with organic print references.

Which size do I need for bakeries?

240×100×320 mm is standard for typical bread roll and bread orders. For larger family orders, 320×150×420 mm.

Which run size makes sense?

Stock items in standard sizes are available from stock. For bakeries with their own logo we recommend runs from 1,000–2,000 pieces.
