Bags for freezing: what to look for
Food-safe, airtight bags whose data sheet covers freezer temperatures are suitable for freezing. What matters is sufficient thickness, a tight closure and as little air in the bag as possible. We do not stock any items explicitly labelled as freezer bags. Always check the temperature range in the data sheet.

Criteria for freezer bags
- Food-safe: explicitly marked for food contact.
- Temperature range: suitable for freezing according to the data sheet. According to the item data, our PA/PE sealed edge bag is rated for −40 °C to +85 °C.
- Thickness: thicker film protects better against holes and freezer burn. LDPE ziplock bags are available in 50 and 90 µm.
- Tight closure: ziplock or slider closure; for vacuum bags, a sealed seam.
- Labelling: write-on panel for contents and date.
Which bag for which purpose?
| Use | Suitable bag | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Portions, fruit, vegetables | Food-Grade Ziplock Bags | with write-on panel, 50 or 90 µm |
| Meat, fish, cheese | Food-Grade Sealed Edge Bags | PA/PE, 90 µm, vacuum-compatible, −40 °C to +85 °C |
| Bread and baked goods | Food-Grade Flat Bags | Press out the air, close the bag |
Tips against freezer burn
- Press out the air before closing, or vacuum-seal.
- Liquids and soups expand as they freeze: leave room in the bag.
- Freezing flat saves space and thaws more evenly.
- Label with the date.

Frequently asked questions
Are ziplock bags suitable for freezing?
Food-safe ziplock bags made of LDPE are common. Check the permitted temperature range in the data sheet of the specific item.
Which bag withstands −40 °C?
According to the item data, our PA/PE sealed edge bag is rated for −40 °C to +85 °C.
How do I avoid freezer burn?
Remove the air from the bag, close it tightly or vacuum-seal it, and do not store it for too long.
Can I freeze liquids in a bag?
Yes, if the bag is airtight. Leave some room, because liquids expand as they freeze.
