Material properties of catering packaging in detail

Catering packaging combines food safety, load capacity and material variety. The choice of material depends on the type of food, the delivery mode and brand presentation.

Kraft paper 80–120 g/m² — the carrier bag standard

Natural paper in a robust quality with a twisted paper cord handle. Load capacity 5–10 kg depending on format. Standard for buffet delivery ranges, conference hotel breakfast deliveries and medium-weight catering packages.

Kraft paper 120 g/m² with flat handles — premium

A sturdier variant with reinforced flat handles and a load capacity up to 15 kg. For heavy catering packages (wedding buffet components, event service with several main courses).

Wet-strength greaseproof material 40 g/m²

The classic grease- and moisture-resistant paper with wet-strength impregnation. Standard for greasy snacks (chips, pretzels), fresh baked goods and filled rolls.

Kraft paper with a PE inner layer

Kraft paper on the outside, 15–25 microns LDPE coating inside. Protects against grease bleed-through with croissants, Danish pastries and greasy catering snacks. Recyclable in the paper recycling stream.

OPP films for visual presentation

Clear OPP film 30 microns for catering ranges where the appearance of the food drives the purchase decision — praline ranges, confectionery stations and premium snack packaging.

Food-grade certification

Printing processes

Printing on paper carrier bags by offset printing with up to 8 colours for high-resolution photographic imagery. Printing on standard products by flexographic printing with up to 4 colours. Logo, catering brand, event slogan or marketing message.

Sustainability — catering packaging and reusable concepts

Catering and hospitality are packaging-intensive sectors — which makes sustainability a central topic. We support catering businesses through the transition to PPWR-compliant and sustainable packaging.

Paper recycling and FSC

Catering packaging made from pure kraft paper is fully recyclable in the paper recycling stream — one of the highest material recovery rates of any packaging material. FSC-certified paper as standard for sustainable catering brands.

PE-coated variants and PPWR

Catering packaging with a thin PE inner coating (under 5 % content) remains recyclable in the paper recycling stream. With a thicker PE coating, disposal is via the yellow recycling bag. PPWR-compliant thanks to the paper content.

Reusable catering concepts

Since 2023, catering businesses have been required to offer reusable alternatives for take-away catering. For reusable catering we recommend cotton or PP non-woven drawstring bags with a service life of 50–100 uses.

Compostable catering packaging

For organic catering and sustainability-focused event service brands: kraft paper/PLA composites industrially compostable in accordance with EN 13432. Suitable for dry catering ranges, not for wet or heavily greasy foods.

Material efficiency in bulk catering

Wet-strength greaseproof material is the standard for filled rolls, wraps and salad bowls. It protects the outer paper layer from soaking through and is breathable. On request with a window for visual presentation.

Can I order in bulk by the pallet?

Yes — pallet quantities are standard in the catering sector. Direct dispatch by freight forwarder from our German warehouse, lead time on request. For pallet quantities we prepare individual quotes with volume discounts on request.

Is reusable catering packaging available?

For reusable concepts we recommend cotton or PP non-woven drawstring bags with a service life of 50–100 uses. Ecologically worthwhile from around 10 uses compared with single-use carrier bags.

Is the packaging suitable for frozen catering?

Yes — LDPE film bags are cold-resistant down to around -40 °C. For frozen catering (e.g. pre-frozen buffet components) we recommend mono-PE bags with no paper content, as paper softens when thawed.

Are there compostable catering packaging options?

Yes — kraft paper/PLA composites are industrially compostable in accordance with EN 13432. Suitable for dry catering ranges. For wet or greasy foods, continue to use greaseproof material or PE-coated paper bags.
