What are block bottom bags for herbs?
Block bottom bags for herbs are upright packaging bags with a rectangular block bottom whose material and inner-layer choice is tailored to the special requirements of dried herbs. Herbs are a natural product with a twofold challenge: on one hand they contain aromatic essential oils that evaporate through packaging that is too open; on the other hand, in fully sealed packaging they can retain residual moisture that leads to mould formation. The right packaging choice is a balanced compromise between aroma protection and breathability.
For aroma-intense herbs (peppermint, oregano, lavender, thyme), laminated film with an aroma barrier is usually the right choice – the herbs are fully dried and do not need breathability. For less aroma-intense herbs (parsley, chives, savory) and for brands with an organic/health-food claim, kraft paper block bags with a breathable inner layer are ideal. In both cases the block shape offers a stable stand on the shelf and supports the premium presentation of producer herb brands.
Our range of block bags for herbs covers fill volumes from 25 g (sample edition) to 250 g (family packs). With or without a window (especially interesting for herb blends with visually appealing petals), with or without a zip closure, in a laminated film or kraft paper variant. Food-grade compliance to EU 10/2011 is standard. On request we provide declarations of conformity and data sheets.
